What is Embodied Futures Workshop?
Embodied Futures is a workshop that combines text and movement improvisation methodology with theory and speculation of futures images. The workshop aims to introduce tools and methodology to use embodied knowledge as a source to create speculative material. Embodied knowledge such as intuition, sensations, and feelings as a source of knowledge production can offer new, alternative, or surprising perspectives and points of view about the present moment and futures. The workshop does not require any prior experience in improvisation or movement practice. Curiosity towards listening and connecting with bodies is enough.
Why are we organizing this event?
The motivation to develop the workshop methodology comes from an observation of how rational and analytical thinking and knowledge production are often valued over embodied knowledge, such as intuition, sensations or feelings. Still, humans, as emotional beings, think, make decisions, or behave constantly based on these bodily signals. With the workshop Antti wants to treat embodied knowledge as an important part of knowledge production as rational and analytical information. In addition, in terms of speculating and shaping futures, using embodied knowledge as part of the speculation process is a way to feel and experience the futures in the present moment, and therefore, have a broader spectrum of experience and knowledge.
Who is Antti Uimonen?
Antti Uimonen is futurist (MA), dancer, and performance artist (MA). Antti has developed an Embodied Futures workshop method to use our embodied knowledge to speculate, experience, and imagine futures. Additionally, Antti uses Futures Studies methodology as part of his performance creation practice.
